Visa Guide for Studying English in Bali
Planning to study English with us in Bali? Here’s a straightforward guide to which visa fits your course length, based on current Indonesian immigration rules. JB English Bali welcomes students from around the world, and most students are able to arrange the right visa without difficulty.
Visa for a Short English Course in Bali (Up to 60 Days)
Students from many countries, including France, Spain, China, Japan, and South Korea, can enter Indonesia on a Visa on Arrival (VOA). This is obtained on arrival at the airport (or in advance online as an e-VOA), costs around IDR 500,000, and allows an initial stay of 30 days. It can be extended once at a local immigration office for a further 30 days, giving a maximum stay of 60 days.
A number of nationalities, including most ASEAN countries, Brazil, and Turkey, can instead enter under Indonesia’s visa exemption, which allows a 30-day stay but cannot be extended.
Neither option permits a stay beyond 60 days, so they suit shorter courses only.
Social-Cultural Visa (C6) for a 2–6 Month English Course
For students enrolling in a longer program, the appropriate option is the Social-Cultural Visa (index C6). This is applied for online in advance through Indonesia’s official e-visa portal and is well suited to study at a language school. It allows an initial stay of 60 days, which can then be extended twice at 60 days each, for a maximum total stay of 180 days (6 months).
Applying for this visa typically requires:
- A passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date
- A sponsorship or invitation letter
- Recent bank statements showing sufficient funds
- A passport-style photo and travel itinerary
We’re happy to provide the documentation needed to support your application.
E30 Student KITAS for Longer-Term Study in Bali
For students planning to study with us for longer than 6 months, or who prefer a visa with multiple-entry flexibility so they can travel in and out of Indonesia during their course, the E30 Student KITAS is the better fit. This is a stay permit specifically for non-degree study, valid for longer periods than the Social-Cultural Visa, and requires sponsorship from the educational institution.
JB English Bali is able to act as your sponsoring institution for the E30, handling the institutional side of the application on your behalf.
Which Visa Do I Need for My Bali English Course?
As a general guide: a 2–4 week course usually fits within a Visa on Arrival, a course of two to six months will need the Social-Cultural Visa applied for before you travel, and anything longer-term or ongoing is best served by the E30 Student KITAS with our sponsorship.
